An exciting afternoon at Wembley Stadium as Bromley FC won promotion to the English Football League by defeating Solihull Moors in the National League Play Off Final.
I joined the 15,000 Bromley supporters in the Blue section of the ground, which traditionally would have been the tunnel end C of the old ‘Wembley.’ This impressive turnout considerably outnumbered the Solihull contingent, although the Moors Club is fairly new having only been established around fifteen years ago.
The match was a close and hard fought affair and whilst Bromley twice took the lead, Solihull pegged them back with equalisers. So extra time was required, however no further goals were scored – although Bromley’s excellent Kirk was a whisker away with efforts that hit bar and post – and the dreaded penalty shoot out ensued.
Smith in the Bromley goal proved the match winner with two superb saves and our local heroes led the joyful celebrations.
