I attended a launch this evening of new oil paintings by former Gloucestershire and England wicketkeeper Jack Russell at the Chris Beetles Gallery in St James’s, Piccadilly. Entitled ‘Going into bat for Lord’s Taverners’, the event was opened by David Gower OBE, the President of the Taverrners, with a percentage of all the sales going to the innovative charity. Also on display at the gallery were original cricket illustrations from the 19th and 20th century plus a large group of contemporary political cartoons by Glen Baxter, Matt, and Nick Newman. The exhibition will be running until the 12th September.
Lord’s Taverners provide free, inclusive and impactful cricket programmes, empowering young people with a disability and those facing socio-economic disadvantage to develop the skills, capabilities, and confidence required to overcome the challenges of inequality, raise their aspirations and unlock their potential.
