Horace Trubridge, Dave Webster, Maddy Radcliff and I represented the MU at the annual UK Music summer event this evening, although on this occasion the venue was the 9th floor in City Hall overlooking Tower Bridge, rather than the gathering’s usual home on the Terrace at the House of Commons.

Ealing Club
I attended a screening this evening of ‘Surburban Steps to Rockland – The Story of the Ealing Club’ in the Macmillan Room at Portcullis House, Westminster, at the invitation of the ‘APPG on Music’ and Rupa Huq MP.
Kent v Glos
A wonderfully relaxed Sunday at the Kent County cricket ground in Beckenham, as an in-form Kent eleven won a high scoring match against Gloucestershire in the Royal London Cup.
England v Nigeria
Ben and I met up with Peter Brown at the England fans’ haunt The Green Man in Wembley’s Dagmar Avenue this afternoon, ahead of England’s pre-World Cup friendly against Nigeria.
Quiz victory
The MU entered two teams in the 12th annual Hencilla Canworth Quiz this evening at its well-established venue, Dickens Inn in St Katherine’s Dock.
Charity golf day
Another cracking day in the summer sunshine at Cumberwell Park GC in Wiltshire at the charity golf fundraiser arranged by Neil and Sarah Davies in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care and the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group.
Emily Barker
After a productive day working on the summer 2018 issue of The Musician magazine with the Future Fusion publishing team at Quay House, I accompanied Account Manager David Parker and Consultant Editor Neil Crossley to The Forum.
Hyde Park rally
Following the success of the previous TUC rallies in Hyde Park, I was asked by the organisation’s events team to arrange three artists to perform on their stage near Marble Arch this afternoon during their latest major central London event.
Graham Norton
My wife Julie arranged for two tickets for the recording of The Graham Norton Show this week and so this afternoon we met at Westminster tube station and travelled to White City where the programme is recorded.
Orchestral campaign
The MU launched a campaign today, The Musician – Behind the Moment, which aims to highlight the world-class skill of British orchestral musicians.
Canterbury day
A wonderful day at Kent County Cricket’s Canterbury ground, as my son Ben was match mascot for the day as Kent faced the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy winners Pakistan in the opening fixture of their visit to these shores.
Bletchingley GC
Glorious sunshine greeted the spring gathering of the Four Seasons Society at Bletchingley Golf Club today as a dozen players battled to win the first trophy of the year.
Remembering Wendy
Following the passing away of my elder sister Wendy in Johannesburg last summer, the family agreed to celebrate her life amongst relatives and friends in London. Wendy always expressed her love for Highgate and Hampstead and it was thought ideal that we mark her memory in the area.

My son Ben completed his series of winter nets at the Kent County ground this evening in Worsley Bridge Road, Beckenham.

I was contacted by Tom Kiehl of UK Music recently who advised that Sky News were planning an item on the possible difficulties musicians will face when travelling across Europe post-Brexit.
High Court judgement
There was considerable media interest in the High Court judgement announced today in the case of Chris Goldscheider versus the Royal Opera House, in which the musician was claiming damages and loss of earnings as a result of the hearing damage (‘aural shock’) he stated were caused during orchestra rehearsals in 2012.
Hard Rock Cafe
I dropped into the Hard Rock Cafe in London’s Mayfair this evening at the kind invitation of Ray Jones and Laura Westcott who were keen I learnt about their new live agency Talentbanq.
Bond in Motion
My long-term friend Mark Batchelor kindly let me know about this evening’s special event at the London Film Museum ‘Bond in Motion’ collection, where Edith Bowman was to conduct a landmark interview with the legendary duo of soundtrack composer David Arnold and inspirational lyricist Don Black.
