I travelled down to Canterbury early this morning to take part in the autumn Kent Legends’ Golf Day. A healthy turnout of 22 teams took part and I lined up alongside Canterbury GC President Kerry, plus local members Neil and Richard. I started well, but scored less well through the middle of the round and finished with 31 points. Our team scored a collective better-ball score of 87 points, not far behind the winning total of 91.
The clubhouse awards ceremony and dinner gave the opportunity to meet coach Allan Donald, current batting star Heino Kuhn, and West Indian test player, John Shepherd. A very enjoyable day in the Kent sunshine. My thanks to GC General Manager Roger Hyder and Heidi for a superbly organised event.
This followed on from Julie, Ben and I supporting Kent at the Beckenham County Ground on Sunday afternoon (11 August) as the first XI took on Middlesex in their latest Vitality T20 Blast match. This proved a tight affair in which the visitors looked favourites to secure victory, until a late rush of Kent runs resulted in a home win with three balls to spare. Always a pleasure to see Heidi Coleman, Matt Walker and Paul Downtown and happily the weather held.
