Haslemere Festival

A busy few days on and around the weekend. Friday evening saw Julie, Ben and I attend the Langley Park Boys cricket end-of-season awards BBQ event, while Ben trained at Oak Lodge with Beckenham Town Juniors FC on Saturday morning. We then watched England’s quarter final victory over Sweden at home, before driving to Haslemere in Surrey at half past five this afternoon. We arrived in the town just in time to catch Sour Kix performing to a packed arena on the main stage at the local biennial Festival.

We met up with Rachel Thacker and her family, who had set up mini-camp in a good spot in the middle of the crowd. The five-piece was on top form (a fifth member on guitar/bass had recently joined) and followed by the respected Lucy Spraggan and then headliners Scouting for Girls who soon had the crowd in sing-a-long mode with their mix of upbeat hits and classic rock covers. They had been so impressed with Sour Kix, that they asked drummer Oli to play with them the following Tuesday!

On Monday evening Ben kept wicket for Beckenham CC Under 13 Bees versus top of the table (and to date unbeaten) Dartfordians on their turf. However, the opposition proved too strong and their batting line-up outscored Beckenham.

On Tuesday, Ben took part in the Langley Boys sports day in Bromley, in which Ben ran in the somewhat unusual 300m event.
