Workers’ Play Time

This afternoon the senior officials and support staff of the MU attended the launch of “Workers’ Playtime, the History of the Musicians’ Union” in The Court Room of Senate House at the University of London in Bloomsbury.

The authors, Martin Cloonan and John Williamson of Glasgow University, have done a superb job of compiling an in-depth volume, which should prove a valuable research resource for many years to come.  General Secretary John Smith gave an impromptu speech outlining important moments in the Union’s history and thanked the team for their considerable efforts.  On hand were the Union’s Executive Committee, journalist and songwriter Neil Crossley who was writing up the event for The Musician, and charming photographer Joanna Dudderidge.
