Julie and I drove to Hampstead Theatre in Swiss Cottage this evening to mark my birthday weekend by attending the premiere of The Forest, a play by Florian Zeller, and featuring a stellar cast of Gina McKee, Toby Stephens, Paul McGann, Finbar Lynch, Millie Brady, Silas Carson, Angel Coulby, Sakuntala Ramanee and Eddie Toll.
This proved a riveting performance examining relationships, desire, duplicity and guilt, which left us discussing the characters, script and meaning of the play long after it was over. Of special note is the excellent three part stage setting by Anna Fleischle, which adds superbly to the overlapping, time-shifting intrigue. To be highly recommended – if you can find a ticket!
