I was invited by Musicians’ Union Assistant General Secretary Horace Trubridge to represent the organisation at the SXSW 2016 Workshop organised by the PRS for Music Foundation this afternoon.
The Foundation (PRSF) were hosting the event at their Pancras Square offices for artists, bands and managers who have been invited to attend and perform at SXSW 2016 in the USA during March.
The guests and panellists included Joe Frankland, Bhavesh Patel and Ruth Kilpatrick (PRSF), Una Johnston from SXSW, Phil Patterson and Emma Hill from UKTI, Crispin Parry and Katie Weatherall of British Underground, Adam Jeanes of Arts Council England, Chris Tams (BPI), Claire Southwick of Primitive Management, Rachel Coomber and Kelly Betts of BBC Introducing and Alex Sharman (PRS For Music).
The event was attended by numerous artists and their management who were seeking insider’s advice on making the most of performing at SXSW showcases. Discussion points included administrative logistics such as flights, hotels, ESTAs, visas, insurance and planning meetings, plus how to maximise the promotional opportunities.
First time visitors were particularly pointed towards the useful online guide.
