Suzi Fussey certainly enjoyed a fascinating journey in her 20s, from burgeoning hairdresser in Beckenham High Street to working with one of the legends of the rock world and marrying one of its stars who contributed so much to many classic tracks, namely guitarist Mick Ronson.
Her working with Mick and the musicians around him is detailed in gripping fashion in a new book, “Me and Mr. Jones: My Life with David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars”, which superbly captures the backstage world and machinations of artist and management of the early 1970s.
I particularly enjoyed the references, understandably, to Beckenham and Bromley and local life in the late 1960s. Plus the insight into the goings-on at Haddon Hall and learning of the ‘band flat’ close to the Regal (now Odeon) cinema.
