Southbank concert

A very pleasant evening in the company of photographer Jonathan Stewart as we attended Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank to enjoy a concert by singer/writer Shawn Colvin and UK rising star, Liverpudlian Robert Vincent. A pleasure to meet violinist Omar Puente at the bar before taking our excellent seats in the superb hall.

Robert has a relaxed and humorous style and it is easy to hear how he won best album at the UK Americana Awards earlier this year, courtesy of his stirring original material. It was a further pleasure to meet him during the interval and he kindly signed a CD for Jonathan. Shawn began with a focused intensity with Paul Simon’s ‘American Tune’, but relaxed into the set and I particularly appreciated Springsteen’s ‘Tougher than the rest’ and her biggest hit, ‘Sunny came home.’

Jonathan and I left the Hall and strolled along the Southbank, stopping off at Gourmet Pizza at Gabriels’ Wharf along the way, as we walked through the summer night air to the Shangri-La Hotel and the Shard to collect his photographic equipment.

A taxi journey to Westminster dropped me off at Tothill Street and the Hub hotel where I was staying due to my setting off early to Paddington Station and Future’s offices in Bath, where I would be working on the autumn issue of The Musician magazine.
