Mercato, Mayfair

Mercato, Mayfair

During a visit to the West End this afternoon I walked the length of Marylebone High Street, stopping off at several of the area’s independent boutique outlets. I heartily recommend this corner of the city, just yards away from the mainstream bustle of Oxford Street.

I also visited Mercato for lunch on North Audley Street. Formerly St Mark’s, the site was deconsecrated in 1974 and is now a commercial hub over two floors offering sustainable authentic food, a rooftop terrace, wine cellar and extensive community space.

The ingredients on sale are fresh and sustainably sourced as far as possible. After spending thirty years on England’s Historic Heritage Risk Register, the Grade 1 listed building is part of a two-year £5 million restoration by Grosvenor estates, aiming to repurpose and revive the building’s heritage features.
