Midlands trip

I travelled up to Birmingham on Sunday evening, in advance of my visit to the potential site for the MU Members’ Conference in July, namely Resonance in Dudley.

I stayed overnight in the Radisson Blu hotel in the heart of Birmingham, a familiar location from so many previous exhibitions and events in the city.

A train journey to Stourbridge Junction this morning led to me hooking up with MU colleague David Barnard for the drive to the site. Resonance boasts an excellent suite of meeting and teaching rooms, recording and rehearsal studios, and the Black Country Radio station.

Following a meeting with Rick Benton (keyboard player with 1980s’ rockers Magnum), who were using the playing facilities today, plus a tour of the ground floor studios, David and I walked over to the neighbouring Copthorne Hotel where – should the site be chosen – the delegates would be staying. There we met Sales Manager Michelle Gwillam who was extremely helpful and advised of the booking opportunities in July.

Having gained all the information I required to report back to MU HQ, David kindly dropped me back to Worcester Parkway for the train home. My thanks to everyone I met during a very useful day.
