Glen Barnham

Glen Barnham

I joined a gathering of former MU and Equity Officials, musicians and actors, plus broadcasting representatives at The Lamb in Holborn tonight, to celebrate the life and work of the late Glen Barnham.

Representing the music side of Glen’s life were John Smith OBE, PPL CEO Peter Leathem, jazz trumpeter Chris Hodgkins, Horace Trubridge, trombonist Pete Thoms and bassist Richard Watson.

Peter, former Equity General Secretary Christine Payne and former BBC negotiator James Lancaster gave moving speeches. It was great to see everyone and a fitting tribute to Glen.

On the way back to Tottenham Court Road tube station, I walked past the historic Princess Louise in High Holborn (hence main photo). The pub is not only a wonderful example of historic London taverns, but also notable for having been the home to a number of influential folk clubs run by Ewan MacColl and others, which played an important part in the British folk revival in the 1950s and early 1960s.
