Bristol visit

A very relaxing trip to Bristol for the last couple of days, as I caught up with several long-standing contacts in the city. First up was a night out with songwriter and journalist Neil Crossley and top designer Chris Stenner. I worked for twenty years with Neil, principally on The Musician magazine, and it is always rewarding to exchange news of our most recent activities on the music and writing fronts.

I met Neil and Chris in the historic Hatchet pub in the centre of Bristol on Friday night, which was handily close to my Radisson Blu base for the duration of the stay. It wasn’t long before a significant number of pints and whiskies had been sunk and many a story related. A fun evening all round. (The hotel and pub are in fact only yards away from the Hippodrome, where I memorably saw Queen in December 1979).

The following day, having strolled around the city and taken in some of its numerous landmarks, I met up with the multi-talented Holly Carter for coffee. Holly is a star of the Americana scene and had spent the previous few days working on her new album in Devon. Marvellous to hear of all her plans for the year and to swap advice on the production and launch of vinyl releases.
