I made the brief journey from Beckenham to Addington Palace Golf Club today to play in the autumn event in the Hayes’s Four Seasons competition. I was teamed up in a four ball with Vince Mackley – who was captain for the day – and Paul Vincent and his guest Louis Kelly.
As a group we started well and soon had an acceptable number of points on the board. I was leading at half way (unbeknownst to us) with a fairly average score of 15, however my game slowly deteriorated as the holes passed and tiredness kicked in. Addington Palace is a relatively hilly track and my exertions in recent weeks at work clearly had taken their toll. I finished in third place, just a point behind the winner Andy Hayes and Paul who came second.
The nearest the pin in one shot at a par 3 was won by Louis, whilst organiser Les Hayes took the prize for the nearest the pin in two shots on a par 4.
We gathered in the clubhouse for a fine ham, egg and chips, and to congratulate all the winners. My thanks to Les once again for a very enjoyable day and I look forward to the winter meeting between Christmas and New Year.
