My thanks to Nigel Adams MP, CEO Jo Dipple and the UK Music team for the invitation to their summer reception on the Terrace at the House of Commons tonight. The organisation launched its report into music tourism in the UK entitled ‘Wish you were here’, undertaken on their behalf by Oxford Economics. This states that music tourism numbers increased by 34% between 2011 and 2014, with 9.5m people travelling to UK music events – with 546,000 of these from overseas – helping to contribute £3.1bn to the economy. It was good to say hello to Brian May, who proved very popular with the parliamentarians, and to have a very pleasant catch-up with composer David Arnold.
