An entertaining afternoon with the Lord’s Taverners in the Nursery Pavilion, as the charity celebrated the career, membership and contributions of Stephen Fry. In attendance were Taverners’ President David Gower, Bill Wyman, Alan Davies, Jimmy Carr, Clare Boulding, Mike Gatting, Graeme Swann, Miles Jupp and many others from across the sport and the world of stage and screen.
It was a pleasure to meet David, Bill, Alan, Jimmy, Mike and Miles after the lunch. Amongst the items in the silent auction aiming to raise funds for the organisation, was a framed poster from an event in 1963 marking that year’s tour by the West Indies. I spied Les Ames’s signature in the centre and hope my bid is successful!
