Richmond, Yorkshire

Julie, Ben and I travelled by train on Friday to north Yorkshire for a long weekend in Richmond and the surrounding countryside. The trip was centred on the wedding of Julie’s nephew Robbie and Ellis in the delightful setting of the Middleton Lodge estate.

On Saturday we met up with our very long-term friends Julian and Julie, who now live locally having moved up from the original home of Suffolk, and enjoyed an excellent walk along the River Swale to Easby Abbey.

Saturday evening we enjoyed an Italian meal in the historic Market Square in Richmond and drinks at the Bishop Blaise pub. (Shame about the England result at the World Cup. England have never won a tournament knockout match against a major footballing nation, away from Wembley, and that trend clearly continues).

Sunday saw us make the short journey to Middleton to attend the wedding. The extensive grounds and numerous buildings provided a variety of superb locations during the afternoon and evening, with Ben and I particularly enjoying a game of snooker in the main house as a break from the formalities!
