The MU had a small but enthusiastic contingent at the TUC rally and lobbying event at Parliament this afternoon, principally to make our feelings known about the draconian Trade Union Bill and – in our case – the government’s proposals for the BBC. I joined my colleagues Dave Webster and Maddy Radcliff outside Central Westminster Hall as we met MU activists Rick Finlay, Richard Watson, Andi Hopgood and Max Rowlands prior to the rally inside. We then walked over to St Stephen’s entrance to the Houses of Parliament where we queued in the sunshine with hundreds of other trade unionists before officially requesting to meet with our respective MPs. Beckenham Conservative MP, Bob Stewart, agreed to meet Max and I, however I unfortunately had to leave before he was available. However, an encouraging day and our thanks to all who attended and contributed.
