Joanovarc

Joanovarc

I drove over to Stratford in the east of London this evening to catch the hard rock of Joanovarc at the Cart and Horses, renowned for being the pub venue where Iron Maiden started out. I know the area fairly well, having lived in Maryland Point and Forest Gate in the early 1980s.

Joanovarc are on a seven date tour and in London featured as the special guests of the scene’s rising stars, Gin Annie.

The four-piece band has gone through various line-up changes in the last decade, however excellent lead guitarist Shelley remains their leading light and it was a pleasure to catch up with her briefly tonight.

The band now consists of Emma Hodgson (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Shelley Walker (lead guitar/vocals), Keira Kenworthy (bass guitar/vocals) and Chloe Whitworth (drums/vocals).

The setlist boasts a fresh feel and is a touch harder-hitting than in the past:

Silver Sun
Invisible Enemy
Get Funked
Mister Mister
Here I Go
Escape the Fire (the new single currently receiving airplay on Kerrang! Radio)
Nothing Left to Say
Isolation

I particularly enjoyed the closer in which Chloe’s full-force playing and Emma’s vocals reached a high-point. Check them out!
