The Musician (June)

The summer 2019 issue of The Musician is being dispatched to members this week and in this edition we lead with a profile of vocalist/writer Zara McFarlane; interview Simon Rix and Andrew White of the Kaiser Chiefs; report on the MU Women in Music Conference; how drill music artists are being criminalised; the inequality in music education provision in England; the challenges faced by mothers in the workplace; the MU Theatre Section; while the last Regional Focus in the current series visits Coventry.

We also include a new feature where a musician talks about their instrument and gives tips to young players. Launching this column, we talk to saxophonist Derek Nash about looking after his gear on tour

Horace writes in his column about the newly introduced initiatives for the Delegate Conference and the Executive Committee (EC) meetings, while Naomi highlights the challenges facing theatre musicians in Dublin.

Fulfilling statutory requirements, the annual summary statement to members from our accounts for the year ending 31 Dec 2018 is published, along with the Scrutineers’ Report for the casual vacancy on the EC in Wales & SW England.

Audio files are being prepared to distribute the content in suitable format for our visually impaired members. These files will also be loaded on our website and Soundcloud channel in due course.

In line with members’ requests, The Musician will also be available as a large print file in 24 point for downloading from our website.
