Studio 88

I made my first visit to Studio 88 tonight, a new venue in Whitcomb Street, just off Leicester Square. This followed an invitation by house band regular and wonderful drummer and percussionist, Sian Monaghan, who recommended I meet club hosts Tristan and Amie – best known as the House of Song team that established The Piano Works in Farringdon.

Featuring two piano vocalists and a six-piece band, the set up results in a non-stop repertoire of hits. The songs being requested by the audience via slips provided on each table. The club’s appeal extends to House of Song’s selection of signature drinks plus usherette served California Cones – a new twist on social dining.

The stage action kicked off with Talentbanq’s Ray Jones introducing a pair of up and coming commercial acts, consisting of a charming south American guitar/vocals duo and a high-energy 1980s retro guitar and effects-led line up.  Great stuff Ray, as ever.

It was also a pleasure to catch up with entrepreneur Laura Westcott at the bar. I will certainly be dropping in at the venue again very soon.
