It was a pleasure to invite the previous MU Secretariat team to Eden Park this afternoon. My wife Julie and I, ably supported by our son Ben, were hosts to the former leadership of the Union: John Smith OBE with his wife Sandra, Horace Trubridge, and David Ashley with his partner Sarah, plus former PA to the General Secretary, Jane Austin.
John was MU General Secretary for fifteen years from 2003 to 2017 and is currently President of the International Federation of Musicians and Chair of PPL. Horace was General Secretary from 2017 to 2022 and is enjoying a very well-earned retirement with numerous fishing trips and occasional gigs with Darts. David and Sarah are taking the opportunity to travel widely, including plans to return to South Africa, while Jane is simply having fun!
We were blessed with the weather and many an entertaining story on our lives as musicians and officials!
