Pride, London 2016

I travelled into the West End this morning to assist in the organising of the Union section of the Pride march, the annual event which celebrates LGBT+ culture in the UK. The Parade provides a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, non-binary, asexual, polysexual, genderqueer and gender variant people) to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow them to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.

Those attending on behalf of the MU included Regional Organiser Paul Burrows and John Shortell from the Union’s London office, whilst our photographer for the day – Jonathan Stewart – captured the upbeat mood and characterful moments. At the heart of our contribution was the salsa band I had booked, Rhythms of the City, who are led by the ultra-helpful Barak Schmool and who gave everyone within earshot a real lift, in addition to providing a great promotional display thanks to their custom designed MU t-shirts and accompanying flags.
