Beckenham Cricket Club held the Junior Awards tonight in Foxgrove Road for the Under 9s through to the Under 17s. Neil Coulson, Junior Chair, introduced the event by celebrating the players’ achievements both in Junior league cricket and in District and County teams.
Mark Pulford was the manager of the U17 Boys once again this year. The captaincy rotates and players make the decisions about batting and bowling orders and tactics. This echoes the process within the senior cricket teams, in which most of the Under 17 team also play.
I am delighted to say that Mark’s ‘Players of the Season’ were our son Ben Ames and Lewis Roberts. This is the second season in a row that Ben’s playing has been acknowledged with this award.
The remaining major Awards on the night were as follows:
The Alan Peters Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Girls’ Section: Rosie Lawrence Green.
The Peter Wiseman Award for the Player of the Year: Sam Coulson.
The David and Kate Ford Award for Outstanding Contribution to Junior Cricket: Emyr Roberts.
Finally, The Spirit of Cricket Awards for a male and female player in 2023 was awarded by Mark Pulford to Joseph Lee and Katie Neil respectively. This award recognises players who are consistent contributors to their team and the Junior section through a consistently positive and respectful attitude to their peers, umpires and managers.
