Performers’ Alliance

The Performers’ Alliance All Party Parliamentary Group, which consists of the MU, Equity and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, hosted its annual reception in the Strangers’ Dining Room at the House of Commons this evening. In attendance were numerous artists of note, including Jenny Agutter, Sandie Shaw, Andy Parsons, plus MU guests Tom Robinson and Hugh Cornwell of The Stranglers, whom I had met beforehand in St Stephen’s Tavern. Brief speeches were given by Kerry McCarthy, the Group’s Chair, Harriet Harman and Ed Vaizey, the Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. After a visit to the Strangers’ Bar with the MU’s Isabelle Gutierrez and Ben Jones, I returned to the Tavern to catch up with Therapy drummer Neil Cooper, jazz percussionist Seb Rochford and flautist Jacquelyn Hynes.
