Music in education

In partnership with the team at PR agency Kindred, the MU launched a campaign today to bring attention to the decline in music tuition in recent years, especially for those families on lower incomes who cannot afford private tuition.

The resulting coverage was widespread, taking in broadcast, audio and print media across the UK. Namely, 13 BBC regional radio stations and 8 key national hits, including Sky News, Channel 5 News, MailOnline, BBC News and ITV News.

The Sky News piece was particularly strong and the main message appeared as a bulletin headline throughout the day, while a pre-recorded segment consisting of a report from a Welsh school, composer David Arnold speaking from his studio and an interview with General Secretary Horace Trubridge repeated several times.

The excellent John Thirkell also kindly contributed and was featured in the BBC News report.

It is expected further media coverage will continue during the week, supported by significant social media activity.
