The MU, in partnership with the National Union of Teachers, hosted a stand at this year’s Expo, which once again proved the premier event for all involved in music education across the UK. With overall responsibility for the design, setting-up, maintenance and stocking of our eye-catching stand, I could be found overseeing our show build-up at Olympia alongside the respected events management team from ProMedia and Maddy Radcliff, MU Campaigns and Public Affairs Officer. Our presence over the two days was boosted by activity in the popular seminar hall, where Diane Widdison – MU National Organiser for Education and Training – was joined by colleague David Barnard in presenting ‘Building a successful private teaching practice’, which offered practical advice on law, tax and insurance as well as a range of entrepreneurial strategies to help turn a private teaching practice into a successful business.
