London FolkFest 2016

It was a joy to attend the press launch tonight of this year’s London FolkFest, a four-day event set to be held at The Bedford in Balham from the 2nd to the 5th of June. The launch was held in the historic surroundings of the Jubilee Room at the Houses of Parliament and hosted by Kevin Brennan MP, Co-chair of the APPG on Folk Arts. It was a pleasure to see and greet so many familiar faces, including event MC Tony Moore, Pete Wishart MP of the SNP, flautist Jacquelyn Hynes, Sam Taylor (UK Brand Manager for Tunecore), Laura Westcott from Soundcheque, plus Jonathan Morrish and a team from PPL. Performances of acoustic gems by Ellie Makes Music, Blair Dunlop and the delightful foursome of Hunter & the Bear, ensured the focus of the event remained firmly on the music. Sponsored by PPL, Sambrook’s Brewery, Flare Audio and Cafe Nero, the Festival always presents a number of the scene’s rising stars and I heartily recommend fans of classy original folk should get along to The Bedford in June and catch any of the numerous scheduled artists.
