Julie’s 50th

We celebrated my lovely wife Julie turning 50 this weekend with a fun-packed 24 hours, including a night out in the West End and a garden party at home. On Saturday evening Julie, my step-daughter Lisa, her boyfriend Dan, son Ben and myself met Julie’s brother Chris and his partner Lottie at the American Bar in the Savoy for a cocktail.

Our initial plans were slightly altered when we had to walk around the corner to Simpsons as the Savoy unfortunately would not allow Ben (8) in the bar. We then had a pre-theatre dinner at Joe Allen’s, before catching a cab to the Cambridge Theatre and enjoying the energetic and uplifting show that is The Commitments. (Our thanks to all the cast and band for the superb entertainment). We then walked back through Covent Garden before driving home. The following day we invited some local friends around for a relaxed afternoon get-together, which proved very successful thanks to a glorious September evening bathing our patio in sunshine. The weekend was not without incident, however, as an over-excited Ben fell in our hallway late on Sunday evening and hurt his arm enough for a trip to the A&E Department at Farnborough Hospital to be in order. Fortunately an x-ray showed no break and we all breathed a collective sigh of relief. A great weekend!
