ExCel exhibition

The MU had a significant presence at the inaugural event at ExCel this weekend, organised by SME Events to mark the tenth anniversary of BBC Introducing.  Naomi Pohl, our Assistant General Secretary, advised a packed seminar room on A Guide to Self-Releasing Your Music – the Ultimate in Unsigned Distribution on Friday, whilst the MU stand was constantly busy with visitors over the three days.

My thanks to my colleagues, Sam Jordan, Maddy Radcliff and Paul Burrows, plus members Amy Doyley and Nadine Wild-Palmer, for so professionally representing the Union to the interested students and budding musicians.  The main Journey Theatre was packed for many of the scheduled sessions, especially for the first interview with Jamie Cullum on day one.  Bob Harris hosted a timely session on the UK country music scene on Sunday, while Tom Robinson beguiled his audience on ‘Getting Heard.’  Good to meet Songlink’s David Stark, guitar show organiser Jason Hunt, Songwriting Academy’s Martin Sutton and Oliver Morris of UK Music.

Kudos to photographer Jonathan Stewart too, for capturing the activities on Friday and adding to the Union’s ever-growing photo gallery.  We understand SME Events have licensed the event name for five years, so we look forward immensely to contributing to the show in 2018 and beyond.
