Alistair Griffin

Another night at south London’s grassroots jewel, The Bedford in Balham, this time for the entertaining line-up of Alistair Griffin, Jen Armstrong, Bella Roscoe and Leddra Chapman. Alistair was first spotted by Trevor Horn and given a publishing deal by the legendary producer’s company, before coming to the public’s attention via BBC’s Fame Academy where he was championed by Robin Gibb. The pairing recorded and toured Europe together, prior to his working with dance act Cascada and achieving a No.1 album. Further acclaim followed when his song Just Drive’ entered the Top 40 after the BBC used it to close their coverage of the F1 season. He played a laidback set, but displayed a warmth and vocal talent harnessed with a tasteful choice of cover material – including Crowded House gem Fall at your feet –  charming the captivated mature crowd. Singer/writer/pianist Jen Armstrong has been likened to Cyndi Lauper crossed with Adele and has toured the UK, plus performed and recorded in Los Angeles, Nashville, Vancouver, New York, Texas and Sweden. Her mix of emotional ballads and humorous lyrical twists were popular, while the sibling harmonies of Matty and Julia Gurry from Melbourne’s Belle Roscoe were excellent and a memorable highlight.
