120th anniversary

On the first evening of the MU Conference, the Union marked its 120th anniversary by hosting a reception in the Trafford Suite. Around 200 delegates, officials and guests enjoyed live music from the John Patrick Trio – plus invited soloists Dave O’Higgins (sax) and Pete Hartley (violin) – as well as a set from MP4. General Secretary John Smith gave a speech outlining the history of the MU and its formation in Manchester in 1893. I joined forces with my MU colleagues Jane Austin and Lynn Calvin in setting out the room and our thanks go to the superb services provided by the Midland Hotel and Simon Waters Productions.
