Hattie Briggs

A very relaxing evening at The Rabbit Hole in Hampstead’s New End in the company of singer/writer/musician Hattie Briggs and cellist Jasmine Scott Neale, as the duo performed songs from Hattie’s second album, ‘Young runaway.’  The angelic voice of the 23 year old enthralled the small but enthusiastic audience throughout the set and her blend of sophisticated originals and select covers exhibited a maturity way beyond her years.

I have reviewed Hattie’s album, scheduled for release in July, for the summer issue of The Musician: “In the wake of the plaudits for her debut release, Red & gold, Hattie takes a significant step towards establishing herself as a regular award-winner, and a festival name to look for, thanks to this assured collection of originals. ‘Lift me up’ is a contemporary classic and is surely destined for radio play, not only on folk genre-based stations but across UK-wide mainstream media. Guaranteed to appeal to fans of Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Judds, the traces of commercial country evident in the delicate wonder that is ‘On your way’ confirm the arrival of a star in the making.”

My thanks to to Republic Media’s Sue Harris for the introduction and good luck to Hattie and all the artists playing the London FolkFest in June.
