Half Moon gig

Half Moon gig

I have just spent a very worthwhile evening in the welcome surroundings of the legendary Half Moon in Putney, south west London, enjoying superb performances by the much-respected line up of Robert Vincent and Peter Bruntnell.

Robert kicked off the night in the company of drummer Jim Kimberley and double bassist Danny Williams, who supplied a perfect accompaniment to the mix of rolling country and heartfelt roots ballads. Jim’s harmony vocals and Robert’s wailing harp soon created an engaging atmosphere in the opening songs, building an extremely expansive sound for a classic trio. Stand outs for me, amongst a series of memorable numbers, were “Burns like cotton in the fields” and “I’ll make the most of my sins.”

Following Robert were the energised guitars and drums of Peter’s current line up, who delivered that special combination of lead line hooks and electric power on the tipping point between full-on power pop and psychedelia. I especially enjoyed “Dinosaur”and “Mr Sunshine.”

All in all, a marvellous night.
