Jazz vocalist Cathie Rae, director of the Scottish Jazz Federation, launched her new album entitled Lucky with a classy performance at Dean Street’s Pizza Express club this evening, in the company of Paul Harrison on piano, guitarist Graeme Stephen, bassist Mario Caribe and Scottish young Jazz Musician of the Year, drummer Corrie Dick. Delivering a blend of tracks from the CD, standards, and tunes written by her father for which Cathie has written lyrics, each player welded seamlessly into the group dynamic, yet shone with melodic and harmonic invention when the solo spotlight came their way. Highly enjoyable.
