It is September and therefore Conference season once more and today I was in Brighton for the gathering of the Labour Party faithful. This was to be in attendance for the fringe event in Durham Hall Room 1 of the Hilton Metropole on the seafront that I had organised for midday on behalf of the MU. The theme was to be the industry’s campaign to Fix Streaming.
For too long, record labels, streaming platforms and other internet giants have exploited musicians and songwriters without rewarding them fairly. It’s time to put the value of music back where it belongs – in the hands of music makers.
The panel consisted of MU General Secretary Horace Trubridge (chair), Kevin Brennan MP, MU Deputy General Secretary Naomi Pohl, Tom Gray, musician and the driving force behind the Broken Record campaign, and Eliza Shaddad, singer/songwriter.
