Having completed the set up of the MU stand at the Labour Party Conference yesterday, I had a free day in which to explore Liverpool. I first met up with my niece Katherine Reed who has just moved to Manchester and we had lunch at the excellent Wahaca, just around the corner from the MU base for the week, the Novotel in Hanover Street.
We then walked down to the dockside, where the Jam exhibition ‘About the Young Idea’ is being held until 6 October in the Cunard Building. This proved to be a superb way to spend the afternoon, as the exhibition is packed with not only a history of the band, but also fascinating social and political artefacts from their era (mid 1970s to 1982).
Great to meet Paul Weller’s sister Nicky, who has done a superb job in collating and presenting the exhibits. Not so good to have a nosebleed halfway around the displays! This must have been some psychological leftover from the ruck at the band’s Brixton Academy gig in 1982.
A wonderful day in the Merseyside sunshine. My particular thanks to Katherine for her wonderful company and for acting as an impromptu photographer.
