West End lights

West End lights

Julie, Ben and I could be found in the West End this afternoon as we had matinee tickets for the Fawlty Towers recreation at the Apollo Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue. Our seats were right up at the top of the steep balcony and certainly presented a challenging view of the stage! However, the cast captured the nuances of the original and many of the classic moments were on show.

Upon stepping out into the evening splendour of the city, we headed along Piccadilly and took in the annual colourful frontage of Fortnum & Mason, which this year called upon an advent calendar for its theme.

We then walked down through St James’s and into the Park, along The Mall to Trafalgar Square. Entering The Trafalgar Hotel, we took the lift to the top floor and the excellent outdoor bar, which offers captivating views over the heart of London. A quick visit to Covent Garden followed, before we caught the train home from Charing Cross Station.
