I drove up to Stoke Newington this evening to see up and coming four-piece Mylar perform at basement club The Waiting Room. The band are fronted by lead vocalist and bassist Tom Short, son of my long-term friends, Chris and Jane.
Opening act Rainn Byrns entertained with their blend of Americana and late 60s’ melodic psychedelia and Mylar served up a 45 minute set of excellent, relaxed songs and riffs. Stand out for me was ’50/50′ in which the vocals and early 1980’s synths come together in a perfect setting of retro and contemporary styles.
Great to spend time in the bar after the gig with Nicky Forbes aka Rocky Rhythm, former drummer with the Rezillos.
