Following a morning training with The Warren football club in West Wickham Common, and a fry-up at T’s Cafe in Eden Park, my son Ben was on his way with Julie, Lisa and I to Bluewater Shopping Centre near Dartford for a late birthday treat. This consisted of a 30 minutes ‘Young Driver’ lesson in a dual-controlled Vauxhall Corsa around the track laid out in the Thames Walk car park.
Although Ben struggled a little with the gears, his steering was excellent and our thanks to his instructor Abi who made the lesson both informative and fun. Ben quickly reported afterwards that driving a manual vehicle is ‘harder than it looks!’ A burger, chips and milkshake at Ed’s Diner completed his day out and, whilst perhaps not the healthiest Saturday he will ever have, it certainly was enjoyable.
