I had been invited by Hope and Glory PR to the annual Sony Music Quiz in London’s West End and I had passed the word to David Stark of Songlink knowing that amongst his many contacts were several quiz masters. The number I was allowed to bring on the day was limited to ‘plus two’ and so at half past six I met Brian Kotz and Howie Roscoe in the queue outside BeatLondon at 48 Margaret Street, the site of the legendary Speakeasy Club from 1966 to 1978.
We were greeted by a impressive supply of free drinks and displays of the latest Sony products around the venue. We were introduced to our team mates, who included Laura Cole, editor of That’s Life magazine (Bauer Media), and took our seats for the quiz. This covered a wide range of styles of music, eras and genres and the blend of youth and experience in our team was soon dovetailing effectively. We were delighted to discover that we had won by four points and we each received an impressive package of Sony MDR1000X headphones as a prize. The evening made have begun tentatively, but it ended extremely well!
