Night on the town

Following a few productive hours at MU HQ in Clapham Road, including a catch-up with former industry manager Pete Jenner (Pink Floyd, The Clash, Billy Bragg), I drove into the West End in the early evening and secured a table outside Bar Italia in Frith Street, Soho.  A prime spot for watching the local media personalities mingling with the early nightlife characters in the centre of town.

With the cafe being opposite the entrance to Ronnie Scott’s, I couldn’t help but notice the ‘house full’ signs for tonight’s performance by Georgie Fame and the Guy Barker Big Band.  It wasn’t long before I spied Guy popping out to dine before taking the stage at 8.15pm.  Great to say hello to him and to hear that he is as busy as ever, especially with preparations for his hugely-popular concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 14th December.

I was then joined by my old-friend Mark Batchelor and we ordered the Bar’s legendary coffee before crossing the road to the long-established Delhi Brasserie.  After the meal and more coffee, we parted at around 10pm and I walked back to Covent Garden, collected my car and headed east to the AIM Music Awards after-show party at The Brewery in the Barbican.

Whilst the party had begun at 9.15, it was still in a noisy full-swing and it was a pleasure to greet Keith Harris OBE (former PPL executive and Chair of Music Tank), Tom Watson (deputy leader of the Labour Party), Michael Dugher (CEO of UK Music) and Mark Sutherland, Editor of Music Week in the bar area.  My thanks to AIM for the invitation.
