Mark Batchelor and I attended a unique performance this evening by singer, songwriter and pianist Judith Owen at the St James’s Theatre, Victoria. Helping her launch her new album ‘Ebb and flow’, was a stunning band consisting of drummer Russ Kunkel, bassist Lee Sklar and guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who collectively played on many of the landmark albums of the Laurel Canyon era, including Carole King’s Tapestry, James Taylor’s Sweet Baby James, and Joni Mitchell’s Blue.
In the audience were legendary double bassist Danny Thompson, PR guru Sara Lord – sister of Deep Purple’s Jon Lord – and the charming and highly knowledgeable presenter, Bob Harris.
