Friday blast

Friday blast

A raucous evening at the Oval as Surrey hosted Kent in a T20 Blast fixture. We were blessed with spring sunshine, a party atmosphere and some special cricket.

Ben, his friend Quinn and I travelled up from Eden Park and met up with Julie – who had walked across from Westminster – and settled in amongst the expectant hordes in the Galdari Stand.

It may have started calmly,  as depicted in the main photo, but it wasn’t long before the consumption of lager hit home and the lads in front of us provided a steady stream of drunken but good-natured entertainment!

Surrey dominated the match with Australian Sean Abbott scoring an amazing century off 34 balls (a record). In the 17th over of their innings, Abbott hit a majorly impressive three sixes and three fours. The home team’s total of 223 for 5 looked out of Kent’s reach, but our heroes fought back and were initially on track to match the target when 135 for 1. However, their middle order proved fragile and Kent fell way to 182 for 7 at the close.

A superb evening and one that I am sure Ben and Quinn will remember for a long time!
