I attended “An Evening of New Jazz Fireworks” at Cadogan Hall this evening, which was presented by Hampstead Jazz Club and Lateralize Records and hosted by Jazz FM’s Nigel Williams.
This special concert featured some of the brightest stars in British jazz including singer/songwriter Jo Harrop, pianists Paul Edis and Alex Webb, plus headliner guitarist Chris Standring. MD and bassist Geoff Gascoyne led the accompanying band and string orchestra with aplomb and the ensemble collectively provided a perfect foundation for a welcome series of guest vocalists, including ‘Queen Of Lovers Rock’ Carroll Thompson and former Incognito vocalist Tony Momrelle.
Available at the event was a series of albums featuring tonight’s artists, one of which was ‘British Standard Time’, a showcase for homegrown excellence. Highly recommended.
