Ashes drama

Ashes drama

Ben and I were to be found on the Laker balcony at the Oval today for the last day of the Ashes series. The weather once again did the teams no favours and it was a generally grey day. Play started late but lasted through to lunch, with England’s bowling line-up of Broad, Woakes, Wood, Anderson and Ali initially looking threatening. However, the power duo of Steve Smith and Travis Head appeared set to score the required runs for an Aussie victory, until rain interrupted play in the early afternoon.

The one down side of rain breaks at the Oval is the crowd gathers under the stands where the tempting array of food and drink concession stands are found. Once you’ve eaten and drunk though, the crowded tunnels don’t make for the most comfortable experience. A couple of hours can seem like an eternity, especially when there is no guarantee of further play.
