I enjoyed a very pleasant few hours at Cherry Lodge Golf Club in Biggin Hill, as members gathered for the combined Clare Yonge Memorial Golf and Beckenham Sports Club Days. Over fifty players and members of Clare’s family ensured a moving memorial event to our former President and the sun suitably shone throughout the day.
Cherry Lodge is an excellent course and I was lucky to play in an upbeat foursome with Malcolm Hurst, Danny McConnell and David Valder. My lack of game practice showed occasionally, but I hit some decent long fairway shots and a few good putts to return a score of 33 points.
My thanks to Clare’s family and friends for the game, excellent dinner and superb company. The cricketers good humour continued back at Foxgrove Road and we all look forward to signing up for the second memorial event in June next year.
Fittingly, a sum of £250 is being paid to the South East London Breast Cancer Trust, the organisation that would have been Clare’s chosen charity for her Captain’s year in 2025-2026.
