A superb grassroots jazz evening in East Finchley tonight at a new venue, 67Sourdough, courtesy of the highly-respected duo of inspirational drummer Rick Finlay and inventive saxophonist Jeremy Shoham. The pair were joined for this inaugural gig by special guest guitarist John Etheridge, plus the smooth bass of Dave Jones and the skilful keyboards of Liam Dunachie.
Performing instrumental tracks by a tasteful selection of composers – including Ray Charles, Nat Adderley, Mike Stern and Pat Metheny – the quintet delivered a genuine smorgasbord of delicate mood music and searing high-octane numbers.
Great to see John in fine form and as spirited as ever. Best known for his long-standing membership of Soft Machine, he has forged an exemplary career via a broad range of associations in jazz, classical, and contemporary music.
